ABOUT UNAL ZAK S.
Dr. Sakoglu is currently an Associate Professor of Computer Engineering at University of Houston - Clear Lake. He has a B.S. degree in Electrical-Electronics Engineering from Bilkent University, Turkiye, and M.S. & Ph.D. degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering from The University of New Mexico, Albuquerque, NM, USA. His graduate research involved developing signal/image processing algorithms for better multi-/hyper-spectral sensing & classification with infrared array sensors developed at UNM\'s Center for High Technology Materials. He did post-doctoral research at Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Core at UNM BRAIN Imaging Center & UNM Neurology, and, subsequently at The Mind Research Network in Albuquerque; where he developed & applied time series analyses techniques to MRI and functional MRI (fMRI) data. He held Research Scientist jobs at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Neuroradiology Department, Dallas, TX, at Abbott Laboratories\' Global Pharmaceutical R&D Translational Neuroimaging, Abbott Park, IL, and at University of Texas-Dallas School of Brain and Behavioral Sciences; where he analyzed various medical imaging data such as EEG, PET/CT, SPECT/CT, MRI and fMRI, during these positions. He has applied various neuroimaging data analysis and machine learning techniques to study numerous brain conditions and diseases: vascular dementia, Alzheimer\'s Disease, schizophrenia, cocaine addiction, Gulf War Illness, and multiple sclerosis, to name a few. His current interests include development & application of dynamic multivariate machine learning and modeling methods to multidimensional data, including functional neuroimaging data, and, computational optimization of these methods. His research interests also include modeling, analysis, and visualization of multidimensional imaging and remote sensing data, developing optimal sensing and data sampling methods.Dr Sakoglu\'s research has been funded by the AFOSR/AFRL, DOD, DOE, and private industry. He was awarded visiting fellow jobs at various national research institutions, such DOD AFOSR/AFRL and DOE PNNL. He is a Senior Member of the since 2019 and a Program Evaluator for Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (ABET) since 2023. He is an Associate Editor for Sustainable Computing, Review Editor for Frontiers in Human Neuroscience and Frontiers in Digital Health journals.
