About Umar J.

Umar Javed is a Postdoc Research Associate at Texas A&M AgriLife\'s Water Resources Institute from August 2025. Under his current role, he conducts research on watershed-based protection planning, water quality assessment and the integration of modeling tools with stakeholder-driven policies across Texas. Before that, he was PhD student and research Assistant (June 2021 to July 2025) in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering at South Dakota State University, USA. He completed Masters and Bachelor degrees in Agricultural Engineering from University of Agriculture, Pakistan. He is an educator and early-career motivated researcher with approximately nine years of experience in agro-hydrology and hydrogeology. His work spans stakeholders-engaged projects on stakeholders-engaged watershed protection plans with implementation activities, water quality assessment, conservation practices and their impacts on agricultural resources, groundwater exploration using geophysical resistivity surveys, soil and water conservation technologies (e.g, bed planting, drip irrigation), and enhancing surface irrigation efficiency through modeling tools. His PhD project by working on a stakeholders-engaged watershed in southeastern South Dakota, was focused on \"assessment of the impacts of tillage practices on agricultural resources to shaping them as sustainable for watershed planning identifying BMPs on interface of climate extremes\". He achieved this goal by measuring soil hydrological, physical, biological and chemical parameters under three tillage practices across 46 locations of fields through watershed. Before that, he worked for around 5 years in Pakistan working in different kind of projects related to Groundwater exploration and modeling for aquifers characterization, surface irrigation optimization using modeling technique, watershed management conservation techniques etc.
