About Uma Jayaram
Uma Jayaram is a technology executive and board member with expertise in technology innovation, AI-driven business strategies, and company building. Currently, Uma serves as the General Manager of PAIR (Partnerships for Academia, Innovation, & Research) at Electronic Arts, a ~$50B entertainment company. Tapped to build the initiative from the ground up, she has grown PAIR to a global portfolio of collaborations across 10+ countries. Previously, as GM of SEED, EA\'s Applied R&D Division, she led global teams defining and building the future of interactive entertainment, including future graphics, character pipelines, and ML/AI for workflows. With over 15 years of experience as a professor at Washington State University, Uma co-founded three companies with students and colleagues. The last company was acquired by Intel in 2016, where she took on the role of Managing Director and Principal Engineer, leading the IPX team that delivered on projects like the groundbreaking global Winter Olympics VR experience in PyeongChang. An ASME Fellow, Uma is recognized for her contributions to engineering design, entertainment, manufacturing, and aerospace. She has published over 60 papers, holds seven patents, serves on various boards, and speaks at forums like TEDx, and MIT Tech Review. In 2024, she was honored by Virginia Tech’s Academy of Engineering. Uma earned her Ph.D. and MS in mechanical engineering from Virginia Tech. She holds an undergraduate degree from IIT Kharagpur, where she was the first woman admitted to the Mechanical Engineering program.
