ABOUT ULF HALLMANN
Vision - Strategy - Structure - Growth - Leadership. Senior manager with track record in inventing, building, selling and delivering complex global Circular Economy solutions.IT is rather the \"i\", than the \"I\" – What do I mean by this?Once known simply as the “IT department,” today’s technology teams look very different. They’re no longer staffed solely with technicians. Instead, they bring together a rich mix of skills, perspectives, and expertise—forming diverse teams that are the true backbone of successful digital strategies.Yes, we use technology. But it’s people, processes, domain knowledge, collaboration, motivation, and passion that ultimately make the difference. In many so-called “IT departments,” key positions are now held by individuals who never imagined they’d work in IT. So how do we strengthen the bond within such diverse teams? How do we help non-technical personnel identify with their technical colleagues—and vice versa? And how do we bridge the gap between IT and the rest of the organization? For me, the answer starts with language. I no longer call my teams the “IT department.” Because while we certainly deal with information (and technology), we’re just as focused on innovation, inspiration, intelligence, and many other essential “i”s. These aren’t just buzzwords—they’re the foundation of meaningful digital products and next-generation business models. So I call us the “iTeam”.We work globally, across cultures and disciplines. And to me, the many “little i’s”—the ideas, insights, and intentions of each individual—are essential. Why “i” lowercase? Because in English, the capital “I” refers to the individual. And while great individuals matter, the best teams are those where people put the team before themselves.Rowers often ask: “What makes the boat go faster?”—a reminder that team performance beats individual brilliance when the focus is on shared goals. So yes, it’s rather the “i” than the “I”.Because in the end, it’s not just about tech. It’s about people. Team spirit. Shared purpose. And a common focus on the many “i”s that truly drive impact.
