At Urban Initiatives, I deliver the foundational stage of our Continuum of Programming by using structured sports and play to teach social-emotional learning (SEL) to over 300 elementary students. Through multi-sport recess activities, I foster critical SEL skills like teamwork, conflict resolution, and self-regulation while training and supporting recess monitors to model positive peer leadership. This early-stage work directly prepares students for Urban Initiatives\' progressive model, where middle schoolers advance to become Team Captains, mentoring younger peers through soccer and leadership development. By creating inclusive play environments and coordinating schoolwide programming, I ensure our youngest participants build the social-emotional and leadership foundation needed to thrive in later program stages—advancing our mission to empower youth through sports at every developmental level.
