ABOUT UGO ELLEFSEN
I work in translation studies, game localization, and game studies. I teach, research, and publish on how localization actually functions; technically, historically, and institutionally.I am a PhD Candidate at Concordia University, focusing on the long-term impact of translation norms on video game localization, using quantitative and user-centric methods. My work has appeared in peer-reviewed journals and edited volumes on player language preferences, censorship in video game localization, methodological issues in game studies, player reception of localized games, and the impact of opera translation on videogame experience.I have taught localization, translation, translation technology, and project management at Université de Montréal, Université du Québec en Outaouais, York University, and Concordia University.I am interested in material practices, not narratives; systems, not slogans.
