About Uday K Kumar

I write systems software—mostly C++ nowadays—and I enjoy the parts under the hood: database engine internals, memory management, scheduling and debugging the gnarly stuff. I work in the Azure SQL DB (SQLOS) codebase at Microsoft. Before that, I spent time on Amazon Aurora Storage and HPE StoreOnce, so I enjoy the database world as much as OS/memory and distributed storage.I spend a lot of time reading, writing, and reviewing code; I design, build POCs, and mentor. I speak fluent gdb (Linux) and windbg (Windows)—both amazing in their own ways. Tools of the trade: bash/awk on WSL, PowerShell on Windows, Python everywhere, and AI assistants (Claude) when I want to move faster or explore options.Lately I’m curious about “vectors,” “vector databases,” and “embeddings”—keywords that make me want to see how systems search and reason. Hopefully one day I’ll understand a thing or two.
