About Tyson Russell

Hello! I’m a Cornell University Mechanical Engineering student, passionate about solving complex challenges and driving positive change. My academic journey has been shaped by diverse experiences, including tutoring students in STEM and humanities, where I helped them achieve academic success through tailored support. I’ve also held various leadership roles in student government, clubs, and community organizations, where I honed my skills in collaboration, communication, and community building.Outside the classroom, I’m passionate about the outdoors and hands-on leadership. As a Climbing Instructor and Routesetter with Cornell Outdoor Education, I design engaging climbing routes, teach technical skills, and prioritize safety while fostering growth and confidence in others. I also guide multi-day backpacking trips for incoming students, blending outdoor skills with lessons in teamwork, inclusivity, and community building.I’m inspired by the intersection of engineering, environmentalism, and creative problem-solving, and I’m eager to contribute to meaningful, eco-centric solutions.    Facilitate weekly discussion sections for students in Climate Change and You, the Engineer, through the National Education Equity Lab- Mentor Title I high school students, supporting their success in a rigorous Cornell course and expanding access to higher education- Communicate regularly with classroom teachers to coordinate student progress and ensure alignment with course expectations- Support course delivery by grading assignments, holding office hours, and assisting with program logistics as needed
