ABOUT TYRIQUE MCKIE GOPAUL
Tyrique Gopaul is a first-generation American and two-time valedictorian—first at Virginia State University and later at Georgetown University. At VSU, he earned a B.A. in Political Science and History with a minor in Dance. He founded the Black Dragon Drill Team, the first co-ed, non-binary, size-inclusive majorette team at any HBCU, and was deeply involved in other student organizations. Recognized for his academic excellence, advocacy, and leadership on campus, he received the Luther P. Jackson Award.At Georgetown, he earned an M.A. in Engaged and Public Humanities, specializing in American Government and Social Advocacy. He served in student government, sat on the Board of Directors, and was involved in several student organizations. Recognized for his academic excellence, advocacy, and leadership, he received the Outstanding Student Leader in Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Award. After graduating, he furthered his policy expertise by earning a Public Policy certificate from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.With experience in the White House, Congress, the Attorney General’s Office, and DC local government, Tyrique is dedicated to social justice, equity, and representation. As a professional dancer and choreographer, he also uses the arts as a powerful tool for activism and empowerment.
