About Tyler Maxfield

First of my family to attend college, I received a B.S in Bioengineering from UW, with Honors, followed by a M.S. in Bioengineering. My undergrad/grad research was in neurotech, with courses focusing on biotech commercialization. I went on to join a neurotech startup company, as the first employee in a team of 3 people. In 3 years, I brought 14 products to market as part of a new neural recording system. I then joined Blackrock Neurotech, where I currently lead the BCI Pioneer Engagement Program. At the University of Washington, I worked with Eberhard Fetz and Steve Perlmutter, whose labs focus on brain computer interfaces for the treatment of traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries. Within those labs I worked on projects that focused on the boundary layer between implanted devices and neurological tissue. In my free time, I have a penchant for new experiences. I am currently a local government commissioner and a volunteer firefighter. From 20••••20 I was a professional circus performer. In 2018 I summited Mt. Rainier and spent 16 days rafting the Grand Canyon. In college I bicycled across the USA, from Oregon to Maryland.
