About Tyler Sloan
As a Senior Process Controls Engineer at Delek’s Tyler Refinery, I partner with Operations, Maintenance, I&E, and Engineering to improve safe, reliable refinery performance. Over the past six years, I’ve built broad hands-on capability across Yokogawa systems, alarm management, basic PLC programming, and OT networking, supporting day-to-day troubleshooting as well as major projects and turnarounds.I’ve served as Project Lead and Site Lead Engineer for several high-impact initiatives, including commissioning the world’s first Inside Yokogawa anti-surge and performance control application for an alkylation refrigeration compressor, executing a Distributed Control System upgrade, and leading a plant-critical network upgrade with an online cutover.A key focus area for me is alarm management. I’ve developed and implemented Delek Tyler Refinery’s first dynamic alarm suppression strategies for fired heaters, compressors, pumps, and other critical assets—reducing alarm floods during upsets and improving console operator effectiveness when it matters most.Early in my tenure, significant team turnover accelerated my growth and broadened my ownership of site DCS support. That experience strengthened my troubleshooting approach and reinforced the value of standardization. I take pride in building procedures and standards that have helped train new controls engineers and improve long-term maintainability across the site.I’m driven by operational excellence, practical innovation, and continuous learning. I enjoy tackling complex control and reliability challenges, building scalable standards, and leading work that makes operations safer and more efficient.
