ABOUT TYLER OSTHOLTHOFF

Tyler was a Ground Intelligence Officer and Scout Sniper Platoon Commander in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2012 to 2016. He deployed twice to PACOM to support strategic-level operations. After leaving the Marines, Tyler moved to Boston, MA to be with his wife and son. Tyler was a full time student at Northeastern University between 2016 and 2018, where he earned a Master of Arts degree in Homeland Security; he built a custom concentration in Domestic Intelligence Operations to study how those operations could more effectively support post-9/11 policing in the United States. In 2018, Tyler completed the MBTA Transit Police Academy and served the Transit Police Department (TPD) as a patrolman for two years. He was one of the department’s first patrol rifle-certified officers. In 2020, Tyler left TPD and joined the Northeastern University Police Department (NUPD), where he served as a Field Training Officer, Juvenile Officer, and Municipal Police Training Committee (MPTC) Firearms Instructor. In 2021, Tyler left NUPD to complete the Boston Police Academy (his goal since leaving active service). He serves currently at the Boston Police Department in an Anti-Crime Unit and as a Field Training Officer. Tyler is constantly seeking training outside of his agency to find ways to bridge the gap between police firearms training and performance shooting. Tyler’s mind is open. If new concepts or techniques work, he’s always willing to change the way he trains and teaches. Tyler also believes in crediting those in the industry who have positively affected his training and teaching philosophy. Tyler’s attended over 200 hours of tactics, shooting, and instructor training. Tyler particularly values his time learning from Colin Murphy, Andy Delorey, Eric Palmer, and Jon Carlson at the SIG Sauer Academy; Scott Jedlinski of Modern Samuri Project; Jon O’Brien and Sam Chhoeng of Tactical Dynamics; Drew Estell of Baer Solutions; and Ian Strimbeck of Runenation. Whether an LEO or lawfully armed American citizen, Tyler believes your training should be driven by tough, yet practical, measurable standards. Tyler built and tested each MEP Standard (aka “the MEPs”) utilizing armed citizens and LEOs from across New England. The MEPs are a comprehensive set of on-demand shooting standards, designed to be challenging, but achievable. Tyler developed each CTG course to help his students achieve MEP Standards. As a teacher, Tyler is passionate, thorough, and relentless about making shooters more accurate, more efficient, faster, and ultimately more prepared.
