I am a corporate real estate professional and project manager, but what does that mean exactly? There are many definitions as to what constitutes a project manager, let’s go with the standard, “the person in overall charge of the planning and execution of a particular project.” Pretty broad scope. Here are the qualities that allow me to excel at being a project manager and organizational team member: I am a team builder. It takes a village to execute any successful project and identifying the players that will facilitate quality execution is a core strength. Once assembled, I nurture team growth by letting people excel at what they are passionate about and challenge them to get uncomfortable and grow. Remember, if you think you are the smartest person in the room, you’re doing it wrong! I am an expert communicator. The most important aspect of communicating is listening. We have two ears and one mouth and we should use them proportionally. I seek to understand others and establish connections based on trust and honesty. I leverage silence and look to simplify the complex by asking questions. I am an agent of change. I develop a clear vision and communicate that effectively with others. I am patient, yet persistent in understanding and executing change and ask the tough questions that are needed to foster understanding and buy-in. I seek to understand the why behind the why and using this knowledge, I can lead by example. I build strong relationships based on trust, because most will avoid change if they do not trust the champion of change. I love meeting new people and creating lasting relationships.
