Saskatoon, SK, CA

Everything I’ve done up to this point in my life has been a building block to create technologies that are seamlessly complementary in the modern precision agriculture marketplace. Starting a company is a significant learning curve that has grown my skills in leadership, R&D expertise, international patent law, accounting, investor relations, monitoring industry trends, planning and coordination, marketing, public speaking, media relations, market development, and negotiating partnerships or investments. Agriculture is a global business and Dark Horse is a reflection of what happens when you have a team that believes in making the world a better place, I\'m proud to say I\'m a core piece of that.

ABOUT TYLER LEFLEY

I got into Ag thinking I was going to be in the oilfield doing reclamation work, but with the market experiencing a downturn I chose to switch to crop development instead. I was an early student at the Global Institute for Food Security with a keen interest in the potential of asexuality being a game changer for plant breeding. I gained a lot of experience during my masters with time spent in Germany, learning gene editing techniques, and sequencing the promoter for an apomictic candidate gene in a brassica relative. Post M.Sc. I couldn\'t find a job tailored to my specialty in gene editing/molecular biology and took on a role as a precision agronomist for a consulting business in eastern SK. A couple years later an opportunity presented itself to come back for a PhD in the Sharbel lab at the U of S working on triticale. Being back in Saskatoon gave me the opportunity to start Dark Horse Ag Ventures which is developing complementary technology for precision agriculture
