ABOUT TYGHE TRIMBLE

It’s been quite a time for publishing, hasn\'t it? To call it “turbulent” doesn’t do it justice. Labeling it “disruptive” is just triggering. I’ll be generous (as I do) and say it’s been a learning experience. For the past nearly two decades I’ve been on the front lines in the move from print to digital; I’ve built up audiences by chasing virality and later building teams to top Google’s SERP; I’ve supported publishing business models by fine-tuning programmatic ROI and then built out commerce teams. I’ve pivoted and pivoted again — we all have. The only constant I can really count on in my time as an editor, writer, and content strategist is that everything we did was made possible by rock-solid journalism, good storytelling, and the joy and dedication of a team that believed in the mission. No matter the business model — whether you’re events-based, make money through direct advertising in print, or look to programmatic dollars though big audiences — these are the essential factors that hold together a brand. Through storytelling, a brand’s unique point of view will shine. Journalistic practices are a thing no AI can replicate. The value of a publication — the kind that advertisers have understood for over a century — comes from a team that builds it with joy. Most recently, as the Editor-In-Chief of both Fatherly & Inverse, I work with editorial, sales, marketing, and business development teams to create new opportunities for advertising and pursue non-traditional growth opportunities. On any given day, I am brainstorming, data-gathering, editing and writing, and developing big picture plans designed to overcome the many challenges of publishing. Namely, I’m working to cut through the red tape of algorithms to directly reach our intended audiences; to prevent the cannibalization of AI by doubling down on each brand’s expertise and authority; and to stay focused on the mission by pushing for content that is informative, a joy to read, and that makes the lives of our readers measurably better. As a journalist and liberal arts major with a Masters degree in communications, I excel at research, analysis, and creating clear and executable content strategies based on facts and the reality of audiences’ needs and wants. I embrace nuance when problem solving and pride myself on being well-informed and decisive. I appreciate the power of KPIs for those I manage and rely on OKRs as my big picture guide. In everything I do I’m driven by the notion that well researched, clearly communicated, and well-packaged ideas can change the world.
