Having spent a 3 year spell in the Natural Resources (mining & metals, and oil & gas) sector, I returned to aviation finance in 2014 with MUFG where I now run the aviation business in EMEA accounting for over half the book for the entire global aviation business. My experience in this field extends over 19 years in a number of different capacities and the full suite of IB product areas. I currently run a growing sector team with ever expanding and very ambitious goals.Initially starting in ECGD, I worked on export credits as both a senior underwriter and also developing the risk and LGD approach to assessing aviation and aircraft risk. I then moved to SH & E, where I undertook financial and operational consultancy work for airlines and airports which gave me a very deep understanding of how the industry works from the company\'s point of view.My roles with Deutsche and Standard Bank involved the originating, structuring and executing of complex financing and advisory mandates. While these were largely debt-focussed, I also worked extensively with the M&A and ECM teams on various transactions. I was also heavily involved in unwinding several highly structured financings which enabled 100% recoveries.My roles in this sector have seen me work successfully across the world with many different cultures and across many different product areas both in teams and individually. SB recognised my success in structuring and distributing innovative transactions and promoted me into the Natural Resources team initially to drive new ways of structuring and executing business. Latterly the role developed to include client coverage across all investment banking products.Back in aviation with MUFG in a senior role, I was employed to rebuild the aviation franchise at the bank with a primary focus on secured lending. This culminated in 2019 with the purchase of DVB. My role is very client oriented and encompasses client coverage, deal origination and execution with airlines and lessors across EMEA and, as sector head, the strategic direction and wider management of the very successful and widely known global MUFG aviation franchise.
