About Tim Wood Powell

Before describing how \'experienced and valuable\' I am (!), let me share how I got that way - from people like you! I am grateful to the hundreds of clients who brought me, a guest, into their enterprises, confided in me, and let me study them - warts and all. While I\'m fortunate for the world-class \'book learning\' that prepared me, it\'s these deep professional experiences that truly taught me - and that differentiate me and my work. These are lessons not found in any book (except for ones I\'ve written). I\'ve learned primarily through helping my clients solve tough challenges. Thank you for your trust and confidence. At Yale University, I studied natural sciences, human sciences, and management - in that order. I began my career as a research psychologist, followed by decades of work with client organizations, from global leaders to start-ups. Three themes unify all of my work:(1) how organizations and their leaders produce value;(2) how organizations acquire and process information and ‘think’; and (3) the dynamic, synergistic relationship between (1) and (2) — a burgeoning field of theory and practice called Epistemic Strategy. My goal is, in some form, always much the same: maximizing value by optimizing information usage. Over many client cases, I developed a general model, the Knowledge Value Chain® (KVC), to describe and diagnose common challenges underpinning superficially different situations. The KVC continues to evolve and has been applied in dozens of client contexts. Around that core, I\'ve built a larger body of tools and insights, summarized in my recent book \"The Value of Knowledge.\"In practice, the core KVC question becomes:\'How can we deploy information and related technologies most effectively and efficiently in service of our enterprise goals and strategies?\' Our consulting approach — Knowledge Resources Management™ (KRM) — applies proven techniques of business value analytics to 21st century information needs and challenges.\"Competing in the Knowledge Economy\" is our wheelhouse - a dynamic hybrid of Competitive and Market Intelligence, Knowledge Management, and Scenario Modeling. We focus first on the needs and challenges of our clients - and, only then, on specific technologies and/or workflow solutions. We consider the needs of all relevant stakeholders. Data, information, knowledge, and intelligence are critical strategic resources — and must be held to similar standards of quality and value as are more tangible enterprise resources.Want to know more about our innovative approach?
