The City of Madison is the second largest in Wisconsin, home to the state capitol and University of Wisconsin-Madison (Big 10), and one of two US cities located on an isthmus. The Planning Division is within the City’s Community and Economic Development Department. The Division is comprised of four sections: Neighborhood Planning, Preservation and Design; Comprehensive Planning and Regional Coordination; Development Review and Plan Implementation; and the Greater Madison MPO. Mayor-appointed role responsible for overall leadership and management of the division, including multi-year work plan and budget. Serve as the Secretary of the Plan Commission and as a technical and policy resource for city departments, the Mayor, and City Council. Provide guidance and oversight to staff on long-range planning, discretionary development review, community engagement, public space design and activation, historic preservation and public art programs, policy and data analyses, intergovernmental boundary agreements, and interdepartmental coordination.Collaborate with city agencies to identify zoning code and process improvements to implement citywide housing priorities through Mayor Rhodes-Conway’s Housing Forward agenda.
