   As a founder of Ashley & Vance Engineering, my role has evolved in ways I never quite planned for. What started as a hands-on engineering firm has grown into a company focused on building both great projects and a great place to work. These days, my job is less about engineering and more about making sure our talented team has what they need to succeed while also maintaining a healthy skepticism of the status quo and resisting the urge to fix things that aren’t actually broken.I focus on supporting and developing our team, ensuring AV remains a place where people want to stay and grow (despite the occasional meeting that could have been an email). I oversee strategy, internal operations, and the processes that keep us strong and adaptable, ideally without overcomplicating them! I also work to foster leadership, career development, and a culture of collaboration that benefits both our team and our clients (or at least keeps things interesting).I still get involved in the technical side when I can, but mostly I make sure our people have the structure, support, and occasional irreverence they need to do their best work!
