This is a technical inspection position, involving the enforcement of Elk Grove Village\'s, building, electrical, mechanical, zoning laws and ordinances. This position also involves the performance of field and office work related to the enforcement and interpretation of building, electrical, mechanical and zoning laws and ordinances. Work requires the analysis of building and related plans and specifications, and knowledge of building construction methods, materials, and practices. Considerable knowledge of approved methods and materials used in building construction and allied mechanical systems, structural work, and of stages of construction when violations and defects may be effectively observed and corrected. Knowledge of state and local regulations covering building construction, safety, zoning, and use and occupancy, sufficient to determine the compliance or violation, and to interpret plans and specifications. Ability to perform data entry tasks. Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications and blueprints sufficient to determine compliance with code requirements prior to approval; and sufficient to compare with construction in progress. Conduct a thorough and efficient inspection of all types of building construction. Coordinates the other various inspections needed for various types of construction projects. Acts independently to determine code compliance. Conducts plan reviews on a regular basis for small to large-sized building projects. Follow up on construction related complaints in a timely manner. Meet with contractors, developers, architects, engineers and citizens to discuss code applicability and compliance.
