About Troy Gaines

I\'m a highly technical leader with a diverse background in both established companies and start-ups. I have an architecture, platform, cloud, development, and leadership background.At Clearcover, I was a Technical Architect assigned to two different teams: Architecture and Platform. I helped establish architectural principles, frameworks, and patterns to help teams better align with Clearcover\'s vision. As a platform architect, I helped solve engineering productivity issues including CI/CD issues, ephemeral environments along with several other immediate technical and business issues impacting the organization. At Shelter Insurance, I worked as Director of I.S. where I led over 115 reports and helped oversee Shelter\'s largest business areas including Auto, Home, and Life. I also oversaw Shelter\'s architecture, cloud, Platform, and DevOps initiatives. I helped lead large migration efforts including migrating over 800 applications to a cloud-native platform including migrating applications to the cloud. During this time, I remained highly technical and stayed engaged with the concerns of the teams I was leading.Prior to being Director at Shelter, I also was a Lead Engineer, Lead Architect, and Manager of Architecture. I played a significant role in the transformation of Shelter\'s engineering teams including defining and implementing new practices that would later on serve to be the catalyst for application modernization efforts across the organization. I was the Lead Architect on Say Insurance where I defined the architecture from the ground up working with other Lead Engineers to define a first-ever event-based microservice architecture. I served in other challenging roles which included the Supervisor of Architecture and Program Management where I was able to change the SDLC process. Finally, at Shelter, I served and led several other teams outside my main role including Agile Champions, Shelter X (a small group selected to help transform the organization), a Venture Capital investment group, as well as several other communities of practice. My journey in tech has equipped me with a wide range of skills, including proficiency in JVM languages such as Java and Kotlin, and various other languages, tools, and frameworks. I\'ve navigated complex platforms like AWS and Kubernetes, and I thrive in agile environments. I\'m a highly passionate technical leader who always enjoys learning something new.
