ABOUT TRISTON SMITH M.D. FSCAI

With over 15 years of experience in the field of cardiovascular medicine, I am a dedicated leader who strives to improve the quality and outcomes of care for patients with complex heart and vascular conditions. I am deeply interested in disparities of care and actively seek avenues to help decrease this burden across the US. I have a diverse background in clinical practice, research, education, cross cultural leadership as well as healthcare quality and safety which enables me to bring a holistic and innovative perspective to the challenges and opportunities facing the cardiovascular service line. Besides my medical and post graduate training I completed the Safety Quality Informatics and Leadership program at Harvard Medical School and a Master of Global Management with concentration in Healthcare at Thunderbird School of Global Management, with honors. I am currently an Editorial Board Member at the Journal of The Society of Coronary Angiography and Interventions (JSCAI), and The Structural Heart Journal where I contribute to the advancement of knowledge and practice in the emerging field of interventional and structural heart cardiology. I am an Assistant Professor of Cardiology at Duquesne University College of Osteopathic Medicine. I am currently pursuing a Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Health Law at Loyola University Chicago, where I aim to deepen my understanding of the legal, compliance and ethical aspects of health care delivery and innovation.In addition to my academic and editorial roles, I am also the Co Chair of the Structural Heart Clinical Council at CommonSpirit Health, where I provide clinical and quality oversight of the structural heart programs within the largest nonprofit health system in the United States. I am responsible for helping to determine strategies for growth, optimizing clinical outcomes, promoting research and educational opportunities, aligning contracting and supply chain with program initiatives and ensuring the highest standards of quality throughout all our programs. As the Medical Director of the Cardiovascular Service Line at Trinity Health System, CommonSpirit Health, I lead the development and implementation of clinical protocols, policies, and best practices for the cardiovascular care delivery across the system. I am a member of the SCAI board of trustees where I have the opportunity to help shape the future of interventional cardiology for all our members. My passion is using innovation to help decrease disparities and gaps in care in the US and in less resourced countries.
