About Tristan Hook

The military has always interested me and when I turned 18 I joined the Air Force. My initial career field was Integrated Avionics for the F16/F117 air-frames but later crossed trained into Electronic Warfare. Between the two fields I have 9 years of experience in avionics that include systems such as fly-by-wire, fire-control, and IR/RF countermeasures. As the mission of the Air Force expanded to include the cyber domain I became more and more interested in Cyber-Security. In 2011 I changed my major from Electrical Engineering to Computer Science and focused my course work towards the field of computer security. I have taken courses in Network Security, Cryptography, and Info Security. These courses went in depth on the algorithms and number theory behind symmetric/asymmetric ciphers, RSA encryption and Hash functions. In addition to theory they also covered authentication, network protocols (please see Skills & Expertise for a list), and security management practices. While in my current position as a Systems and Security Engineer I have designed, configured, and deployed a SIEM solution that utilizes the enterprise AlienVault platform. In addition, I am responsible for calibrating the system by creating/modifying correlation directives and policies to increase event detection accuracy while reducing false positives.I received a CompTIA Security+ Certification on 4/24/13.
