As Private Secretary to the Clerk of the Parliaments, I manage the private and outer offices of the chief executive and accounting officer of the UK’s Upper House. I line-manage the Private Secretaries to the Clerk Assistant and Chief Operating Officer and the Convenor of the Crossbench peers.Previously, I was head of secretariat to the Lords Commission - the “political executive board” and principal governance body of the Lords, reporting to the Lord Speaker. I also served as co-clerk to the executive board of the multi-billion-pound project to renovate the Palace of Westminster. Senior adviser on parliamentary procedure. Extensive policy, strategic and communications experience derived from leading and advising nine parliamentary Select Committee secretariats with a broad focus across international, domestic and financial policy; serving as an external policies adviser in the European Parliament; and working for an international development think tank. Previous roles in environmental and democratic reform policy.Published author and prize-winning historian. Lecturer in American Studies and recipient of a number of US and UK academic fellowships.
