ABOUT TRISHA A. WARD
I am the Chief Public Defender at Evangeline Parish, where I lead a team of dedicated attorneys and staff who serve impoverished communities in the 13th Judicial District. I have more than 17 years of experience in the criminal legal system, handling complex and challenging cases at various stages of the process. I am one of the few public defenders in the state has been certified by the Louisiana Public Defender Board (LPDB) to handle capital cases at the trial, appellate, and post-conviction levels. My mission is to restore trust and dignity to a broken system, by providing zealous representation bolstered by a robust motions practice. I also keep abreast of the ever-changing body of constitutional criminal law, and challenge adverse rulings through appeals and supervisory writs. I value cultivating relationships in my field and in the community, and collaborating with talented individuals to achieve goals that demand teamwork and leadership. I am passionate about advocating for the rights and interests of the marginalized and oppressed, as well as pushing for systemic change.
