About Trevor Sutton

Trevor is currently the Vice President of Economic Development at Birmingham Business Alliance. He leads the economic development team and sets the strategy to attract jobs and land investment for the Greater Birmingham Region. Prior to the VP role, he was focused on supporting existing businesses in Birmingham, specifically in the tech, finance, HQs, and general business services industries. He works directly with companies as they seek incentives to encourage further job growth and greater investment in the community. His goal is to give businesses back some of the time they spend when operating a business. Prior to economic development he worked on Talent Solutions focusing on ways he help businesses solve their workforce problems. Trevor has a strong knowledge and deep relationships with training providers across the region and can make quick connections help identify and create new talent pipelines.Trevor previously was the Assistant Director for Residence Education at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. Here at UAB, Trevor works to oversee all of the academic initiatives for residential students. He has enjoyed being able to impact all on-campus students through strategic initiatives and program development. Trevor enjoys reading about high performing organizations and the leaders that shape them in his free time. Outside of work, you can find him outdoors where nature provides an excellent place to refocus. Prior to UAB, Trevor was a Residential Community Director for Virginia-Snider Commons at Southern Methodist University. He came to SMU with a wealth of experience in Student Affairs and Higher Education Administration. He received his Master\'s from the University of South Carolina where he oversaw a number of communities including The International House at Maxcy College where he worked directly with a Faculty Principal to pair a unique residential learning experience with a co-curricular academic program, The Maxcy Scholar Program. Trevor graduated from Berry College with a BA majoring in Public Relations and English. He has worked on campus all four years that he has attended Berry. Most notably as a Head Resident for 2 years. He has had experience in many areas of Student Affairs from Residence Life, Student Activities, Dean Students Office, first year experience, athletics, and Student Government Association. This is where he found the foundation to his student centered approach to Student Affairs.
