ABOUT TREVOR KORSRUD

Over my nearly 20-year legal career I’ve been fortunate to work with and learn from some amazing people: smart lawyers, talented entrepreneurs, and dedicated support professionals to name a few. My time in private practice gave me the opportunity to do challenging and engaging work as a student, associate and partner at top-tier firms. In addition to the (mostly) interesting legal work, some memorable moments include meeting former Prime Ministers Jean Chrétien and Stephan Harper, and representing the Calgary Roughnecks on the sale of the team and having an 11th hour negotiation - of an apparently deal-breaking photocopier contract - with Ken King, the then president of the Calgary Flames. In another unforgettable moment, I found myself marching with my Venezuelan colleagues in the streets of Caracas against the government of Venezuelan president/dictator Hugo Chavez. When I first walked into the offices of Avenue Living in 2018, I had no idea what the next few years would hold. I had just returned to Canada from a year of living abroad and would be joining the small legal team of a rapidly growing organization. I’m not sure when I first heard the words “fast-paced”, but I know it was in the first days and weeks. What followed has been an incredibly rewarding experience as part of a dynamic and skilled legal team that supports a multi-faceted business. Some accomplishments I am most proud of include: • Supporting Avenue Living’s core private REIT over a period of rapid growth from $750M to over $3B in assets under management • Providing legal support to our self storage fund, Mini Mall Storage Properties from initial start-up in early 2020 to a become an industry leader with over $1B in assets under management in less than 3 years • Supporting our expansion into the United States, which required sophisticated structuring, tax, compliance and operational strategies • Building our legal department from a small team of 5 to a department of over 20 lawyers and support staff in Canada and the US • Implementation of a legal operations function, including adoption of technology platforms that have increased efficiency and service levels Most importantly, I am proud of the fact our teams have been able to achieve these impressive milestones in an environment of respect and collegiality. I can\'t wait to see what\'s next!
