ABOUT TRENT CONARD
Trent Conard is currently the Chief of Police with the Gastonia Police Department and has more than 30 years of law enforcement and emergency response experience. Conard currently manages and leads the department. Past duties included Commander of Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Special Situations Commander for S.W.A.T, Bomb, Crisis Negotiators, Mobile Field Force, and Mobile Command. He was responsible for creating and implementing the PTO program for the Gastonia Police Department in 2005. Since the program was implemented over 200 officers have been trained in the improved training program. Chief Conard is a NC Certified Instructor, nationally certified Problem Based Learning Instructor and also trains other agencies across the country in the alternate field training model that replaces the outdated FTO program. The Police Training Officer (PTO) training program is based on Problem Based Learning principles and teaches critical thinking skills and problem solving. It also focuses on different learning styles, multiple intelligence, and emotional Intelligence. He has extensive leadership training and numerous NIMS and ICS certifications.
