I am an interdisciplinary environmental scientist and internationally recognized expert on ecological light pollution and urban sustainability. My work bridges science, policy, and practice to solve complex environmental challenges—especially those related to conservation, wildfire, and health. I lead research that transforms how we understand human exposure to hazards like extreme heat and artificial light, and I’ve pioneered the use of mobility and spatial data to inform equitable public health responses.As a Principal Investigator and senior academic leader at UCLA, I collaborate to design and scale innovative, project-based training programs that prepare future leaders in environmental science and health. My research has shaped lighting policy, conservation strategies, and urban resilience planning, and has been featured in Science, Nature, The New York Times, National Geographic, and NPR.I’m a trusted advisor to government agencies, nonprofits, and international institutions, with a track record of building coalitions and delivering actionable insights. Whether in the field, in the classroom, or in the policy arena, I focus on science that matters—science that protects nature, informs decisions, and improves lives.
