As a health actuary, I use tools such as Excel, VBA, SAS, SQL, and Power BI to conduct and exhibit complex analyses of medical claims data. Most of my work has focused on Medicaid products - both from the state and MCO perspectives. Significant projects have included- Developing estimates of Medicaid Drug Rebate Program (MDRP) statutory drug rebates and analyzing implications for the financial impacts of single (aka uniform) preferred drug lists (PDLs)- Monitoring emerging pharmacy experience during the COVID pandemic - Developing behavioral health capitation rates after integration into physical health managed care program - Identifying at-risk providers requiring assistance to offset decreased revenues due to COVID - Analyzing the prevalence of high-cost infant claims versus mothers\' Medicaid enrollment and prenatal care utilization - Quantifying the impact of carving pharmacy benefits into a Medicaid managed care program - Planning and creating a data warehouse for claims and eligibility data across multiple products and markets - Supporting a complex Medicare Advantage client through three bid seasons, with a primary focus on NBE assumptionsOutside of directly producing such actuarial work products, I enjoy taking part in key efforts such as recruitment, onboarding/training, and improving work flow efficiency/standardization. As part of these efforts, I have developed technical best practices, departmental competency standards, and Excel add-ins.
