Asian American Dream (AAD) was founded in May 2021 to forge new pathways to career success for Asian American and Pacific Islander undergraduates. Across the United States, there is a severe lack of career readiness programs for AAPI college students. Long-established and well-endowed organizations exclude AAPI out of their target communities. This systemic oversight stems from the harmful and pervasive model minority myth that all AAPI are wealthy, well-connected, and possess abundant social capital. However, AAPI face the largest income disparity of any ethnic group, with the top 10% earning 11 times that of the bottom 10%. At AAD, we provide mentorship, professional development, and career advancement opportunities for first-generation and low-income AAPI undergraduates in New York. Furthermore, we empower our students to chase and achieve their unique vision of the Asian American dream – one that champions their AAPI heritage, lived experiences, and career goals.
