ABOUT TRACY WASHINGTON
Since my eighth-grade science project about antibiotic resistance, I’ve been fascinated by the world of microbiology. I have always been motivated to push the boundaries of science by using new technologies and creative methods toward understanding the underlying mechanisms behind biology. I continue to uncover the mysteries of how the molecular world works by combining microbiological bench top techniques with the power of computational biology.I am currently a Senior Research Associate at Tufts University in the lab of Dr. Bree Aldridge. I currently collaborate with the DiaMOND drug-discovery team using computational biology to automate the discovery process through machine learning to predict treatment outcomes in a relapsing mouse model of Tuberculosis.Throughout my career in science, I have- Published 2 first-author publications with a third in preparation- Worked across multiple bacterial organisms and therapeutic areas- Learned Python, MATLAB and R to conduct complex data analyses related to transcriptomic data (RNAseq, microarrays, qPCR) and high throughput growth inhibition experiments- Designed and executed top experiments to uncover the mechanisms behind gene regulation and differential gene expression in B. subtilis and L. monocytogenes- Mentored graduate students, research technicians, and undergraduate researchers- Collaborated with teams of scientists to conduct large scale experiments and coordinate in depth analyses.If you would like to talk about genetics, microbiology, computational analyses, or science in general, feel free to reach out!
