About Tracy Timmons-Gray
My parents labeled me the “border collie” of my friends in school as I would take the lead in getting the word out, designing gatherings, and building communal experiences where everyone would feel included and valued. All those club activities, movie marathons, and student meetings were an early sign that I would devote my life to helping people and understanding their needs when looking for a solution. Whether it’s through creating clear and inviting communications or designing inclusive and accessible experiences and content, my natural inclination is to build and improve processes that always keep people and what they need at the center. My career being on “small, scrappy, and mighty” nonprofit teams means now I carry a hefty inner toolbox into every situation, having learned to play multiple roles simultaneously to help move things forward and make progress. At the heart of that toolbox is a devotion to finding accessible solutions to whatever problem we’re facing. Often in nonprofits, that can mean “on a budget” (and sometimes on “no budget”), but knowing a challenge must be addressed means we have to find a solution, and then out of that toolbox comes creativity, determination, the always-handy risk mitigation, and an unending belief that a solution is possible. I’m deeply grateful to be on the Collective Impact Forum team, which I am lucky to be part of for a decade now. We are a small and mission-focused team intent on supporting collaborations to build stronger partnerships, reach their goals, and achieve real and lasting impact in their communities. Our team culture is a combination of shared values, strong resolve, a devotion to equity, a Slack channel full of family and pet photos, and a deep supply of humor and support that wells ups when we hit hard walls.(Hard walls will always happen when working in complex change efforts—it’s how we work through them that matters most.)I had no idea that my early inclinations as a “border collie” would bring me to where I am now, but I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to weave a commitment to values, mission, and purpose into a single path forward, towards a north star where everyone can feel included and valued.
