About Tracy Chouinard
I am Principal Engineer, specializing in biosolids, anaerobic digestion, and biogas production as well as biological waste treatment. I am actively involved in the society of women engineers (SWE) and have previously participated with local chapters of water for people (WFP) and engineers without borders (EWB). Additionally, I am a member of Chi Epsilon. I have completed my doctorate in Infrastructure and Environmental Systems (INES) from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in May 2014. INES is a unique interdisciplinary program with a sustainability theme that allows students to customize their dissertation research and create an interdisciplinary faculty advisory committee. I have focused on renewable energy, sustainability, and microbial processes as they apply to anaerobic digesters. For my dissertation, I have been conducting research pertaining to anaerobic digestion of multiple feedstocks, including food waste. Further, I was the recipient of the Energy Production and Infrastructure Center International Internship that allowed me to study and travel in Austria for six months to study bioenergy. I met with various biodiesel and anaerobic digestion laboratory groups and conducted several site investigations. Before beginning graduate school, I was an Environmental Compliance Manager, overseeing grease interceptor waste management. I was mainly responsible for applying to and renewing my employer’s state and municipal permits and ensuring our continued compliance with the permits. Additionally, I was in charge of the daily operations of the grease interceptor waste processing facility. Through both the compliance work and my graduate studies, I have developed strong time management and leadership skills. I work well independently, but I have good experience leading and working with teams.
