Ottawa, ON, CA

My team is in collaboration on a current project led by health Canada in examining 1) how exposure to air pollution leads to disease states and how these progress over time with increasing severity to premature death, and 2) to evaluate the effectiveness of common individual and population-level interventions for air pollution exposure on health, using the CanCHECs and the linked Canadian-Community Health Survey (CCHS) files.I was involved in the expansion (creating a dynamic income profile) on existing integrated data (e.g. Canadian Census Health and Environment Cohorts, or CanCHECs) that include long-term residential history and health outcomes which have been instrumental in supporting population based environmental health research, specifically in the area of ambient air pollution. I collaborated on works involving the attachment of historical environmental exposure data (provided by CANUE) to the Canadian Health Measures Survey and external datasets (e.g. Ontario Health Study, Atlantic Path study and British Columbia Generation study) via record linkage to postal codes (derived from tax files) via the Social Data Linkage Environment. I am also working with colleagues on examining the association between cardiovascular, respiratory, and neurological mortality and long-term exposure to various traffic measures using CanCHEC data.
