About Tori Walters

I am a highly motivated masters student at American University (AU) studying United States Foreign Policy and National Security.Before graduating from the University of Tampa (UT) with two bachelor\'s degrees in History (with a concentration in American Government and Law), and Criminology, with a minor in Leadership Studies, I was selected as one of three UT Honors students to study at the University of Oxford for a semester. While at Oxford in the Spring of 2022, I attended New College and finished with first classification scores. My primary tutorial was on The British Empire and Methods of Imperialism, and my secondary tutorial was an Introduction to Ancient Roman Private Law. My study abroad experience opened my eyes to the joys of living and studying abroad and allowed me to enhance my cultural competency skills while becoming a better writer and researcher. It also broadened my horizons to the world of International Affairs, which I am now pursuing a master\'s degree in. While at UT, I spent majority of my time in the Office of Career Services as a Student Career Ambassador (CA), and more recently, as a Lead Student Career Ambassador. As a CA, I had the ability to develop my interpersonal abilities working with students to provide them with tailored resume and cover letter review. and a variety of career exploration resources. I amplified my public speaking skills through presentations and career events, while developing my teamwork capabilities by working closely with my peer coworkers, as well as the full-time staff in the office. As a Lead CA, I developed managerial skills through the training and onboarding of new CA\'s and was responsible for the planning of our weekly training meetings and the development of new resources and processes, that increased the efficacy and morale of the team!While at AU, I have had the incredible opportunity to serve as an intern in the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Political-Military Affairs. Working in Security Negotiations and Agreements has opened my eyes to the intersection of the Department of State and the Department of Defense within foreign policy. I have also gained invaluable skills such as negotiating strategy, interagency coordination, strong writing and analytical practice and techniques. There is no better way to fully grasp the theories and practices learned in my classes at AU, than applying them in my internship every day!After the completion of my program in May 2025, I hope to continue a career in International Affairs or Global Policy, in either the private or public sectors.
