ABOUT TONY VARTAN

A seasoned health care and behavioral health executive with extensive experience in private and public sector including hospital and outpatient systems of care operations. An innovator who is comfortable with change and can balance strategic decisions and financial discipline. A strong collaborator, an engaging communicator, and relationship builder with visibility and hands-on approach to leadership. Sixteen consecutive years of experience in senior executive leadership, facility, and regional health care and behavioral health management, culminating in successfully leading complex entities achieving profitable growth, clinical excellence, and regulatory compliance in culturally diverse and competitive environments. I am currently the Behavioral Health Director for the County of San Joaquin. I believe it is important to focus on mental health and substance abuse services for the homeless population, criminal justice population, and bolstering the crisis continuum of care to prevent psychiatric hospitalizations. I believe that everyone should have access to high-quality, cost-effective, and culturally competent behavioral health care and this can be achieved by providing leadership, advocacy, and support to expand community behavioral health programs. I support efforts to help the most vulnerable among us – children with serious emotional challenges, adults with serious mental disorders, and people living with substance use disorders. I believe that a community is as strong as its partnerships. Through community partnerships and collaboration we can promote the reduction of individual and community problems related to unaddressed behavioral health issues and improve the delivery of behavioral health services.
