About Tona Diaz
I\'ve been programming since my second year of high-school (2001) and I\'ve got my first tech job during my second year of college (2005). Not only I have been working on software engineering ever since, I absolutely love it!# Some more history. In 2007 in Mexico City, with a group of friends, I created a startup to provide custom software to the federal government and the restaurant industry. It was fantastic, but as all good things have to come to an end; I moved to the US in 2012 looking for new challenges, hoping to work in large-scale data-intensive applications with different technology stacks.During all these years, my work has usually involved working on distributed systems, generally consisting of refactoring large codebases to achieve some particular objective, like performance, consistency, or availability, but also new systems from requirements to release, especially REST APIs. I also enjoy quick prototyping to evaluate the fitness of a given technology to solve a particular problem, and benchmarking competing solutions, in as much of an evidence-based approach as time allows.# My tech stack, over time.I\'ve worked on the two major platforms, Java Enterprise Edition up until 2011 and Microsoft.NET right after. I\'ve programmed professionally on a variety of languages like T-SQL, Java, JavaScript (also TS), and C#. To a lesser extent, either personally or as part of smaller projects, I\'ve also worked with Python, Powershell, Kotlin, and Go.As a way to extend my knowledge in the software lifecycle, I have been quite interested in the deployment and monitoring of cloud applications, a skillset more usually associated with cloud engineers and operators; more specifically, I enjoy migrating applications to the cloud, as containerized microservices deployed in a managed Kubernetes cluster, and tied together with a service mesh.

Senior Software Engineer
May 2021 — Present · Boise, ID, US
Since I discovered the C# language sometime in 2004, I have been a fanboy of Microsoft development tools. It took me a little too long to realize that maybe I could actually work there. I finally did in May of 2021.Since then, I\'ve worked as part of the Walkie Talkie Service team, the back-end of the Frontline Worker\'s targeted, globally available, real-time, push-to-talk add-on \"module\" of Microsoft Teams.Previously in my career, I learned how difficult is to build scalable, resilient and efficient distributed systems, but only at Microsoft I learned how much more difficult it is to do that, while also comply with strict data-residency and privacy regulations, operate in sovereign clouds, and being on top of an increasingly hostile security environment.
