About Tommy Wood

I am a UK-trained MD with a PhD in physiology and neuroscience. I received an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from the University of Cambridge before attending medical school at the University of Oxford. After working as a junior doctor in central London, I moved to Norway for my PhD work, and then to the University of Washington as a postdoc.My research focuses on brain health, recovery, and resilience across the lifespan, including the development of treatments for neonatal brain injury, the prevention and treatment of adult brain trauma, and the prevention of neurodegeneration and dementia. I do this work through academic positions at University of Washington and the Institute for Human and Machine Cognition. I am a Trustee and Treasurer for the British Society of Lifestyle Medicine, Deputy Editor of the Wiley journal Lifestyle Medicine, Principal Investigator of the Food for the Brain dementia prevention database, and Chief Science Officer for BetterBrain. I am also and Head of Science for Motorsport at Hintsa Performance, which involves supporting all aspects of cognitive and physical performance for drivers in Formula 1. My wife, Elizabeth Nance, and I share our home with two energetic (and goofy) boxers. In my spare time I can usually be found cooking, hiking, reading, or lifting something heavy.
