ABOUT TOMMASO BAGNI

I am a superconducting magnet engineer specialising in the design and analysis of demountable and high-field magnet systems for fusion and accelerator applications. My work integrates experimental testing of superconducting materials (Nb₃Sn, REBCO) with multiphysics modelling of quench protection, structural integrity, and joint resistance. Currently at Gauss Fusion GmbH, I contribute to the development of the GIGA Stellarator magnet system, focusing on modular coil design, quench protection strategies, and joint optimisation under cryogenic and dynamic conditions. My background includes a PhD in Applied Superconductivity (University of Twente & Ghent University), postdoctoral research at the University of Geneva, and collaborations across European magnet development programmes (SuperEMFL, DEMO). Recipient of the Jan Evetts Award 2024 for work on the electromechanical performance of Nb₃Sn wires.
