ABOUT CHRIS TOMLINSON

I am a Clinician Scientist, AI+ Senior Academic Fellow (Associate Professor), and Principal Investigator at King’s College London. With a clinical background in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care, I lead a clinical AI research group focused on a deceptively simple yet profoundly important question:\"What will happen next to this patient, and when?\"Pushing the boundaries of generalised health event prediction, my lab develops and scales clinical foundation models. Building on our work with Foresight-England, an autoregressive EHR transformer, we are pushing the AI frontier with an overarching goal to translate these methodologies into downstream applications for clinical risk prediction, digital twins, and biological discovery.Prior to launching my lab at King\'s, I led the development of LifeArc’s Health Data Strategy, driving a vision for how data and AI can make life sciences life-changing for patients with rare diseases. As the Principal Investigator for Foresight-England, I led the development of a world-first, population-scale generative AI model of electronic health records for COVID-research, encompassing 57 million individuals. My broader research portfolio includes pioneering work on proteomic machine learning for drug discovery and early disease detection, as well as building clinically aligned generative AI for tasks such as hospital discharge summarisation.During the COVID-19 pandemic, I led national-scale informatics and epidemiology projects that generated critical evidence for public health. My research has informed global policy and clinical guidelines, with publications and presentations in leading venues such as Nature Medicine, The BMJ, The Lancet Digital Health, NeurIPS, and
