About Tom Fluegel

I’ve seen many wonderful things from our health care system. I have family and friends whose lives have been saved by the talented and passionate professionals working tirelessly every day to provide care to those in need. Despite these efforts, our health care system continues to fall short in many ways-rising costs, lack of access and affordability for many, increased prevalence of chronic disease, and inequity of care particularly for people of color and lower income Americans. Our healthcare system is fragmented and wasteful, with misaligned payment incentives and unclear accountability for most outcomes. I experienced this dysfunction first hand while coordinating care for my aging and now deceased parents. I have also experienced what is possible when I enrolled in an integrated insurer and delivery system a few years ago. I am passionate about improving health care quality and am proud to be part of NCQA whose mission is to do just that.
