About Tomas Perez Arteta
Tulane university graduate with a bachelor degree in Engineering Physics with a certificate in Electrical engineering and minors in Mathematics and Political Science. On campus I was president of Engineers Without Borders Tulane where we worked on building a 21km water pipeline for a rural community in the Andean region of Ecuador as well as novel drain grate designs aimed to solve the constant flooding of New Orleans streets. I was also involved with Escarra Research group assisting in experimental measurements, research and implementation of 2D semiconductors for optoelectronic and photovoltaic purposes and Nano-photonics and dielectric metasurfaces. As someone who is fueled by curiosity engineering in physics has complemented this curiosity not only by giving me logical, sustained and evidential answers to many of my questions but also by posing many questions that keep my curiosity going. Mathematics becomes an additional tool to transfer these ideas, questions and answers raised by my curiosity to a real physical space where they can be further explored.Political science on the other hand is a subject in which I can take a break from numbers and explore the the many questions that arise when we look at historical and current political evolution of the world. Having this two subjects shape my college career has also filtered into my maturity and helped me achieve the person that I am today. Someone who looks at the world through the scope of critical thinking, who tries to find balance inside what I do and who looks at my ideas as opportunities.
