As an Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) with over 20 years’ experience I have come to realise that there are two important elements to this job title. Firstly, advisor. My role is to provide a comprehensive review of all customers’ financial situations, to help identify risks and opportunities and protect what is important to them, and develop a plan for the future. It is not to go in with a preconceived idea of what products or services are best suited to them. However, once a review has been completed and advice provided, I am best placed through my independence to access the whole of market to provide a solution that will meet their needs. It is important to me to ensure that the advice provided remains current and relevant, which is why regular six monthly reviews are offered as standard. Many people assume it is only worth obtaining advice if they have achieved wealth worthy of protection. From our perspective, this is not the case and we do not have a minimum investment criteria. It is my belief that everyone needs to be able to access independent financial advice, irrespective of their current circumstances.
