About Tom Stephenson

Over 49 years of fireground, rescue and ems experience. I spent my career working out of the busiest fire stations in the City of San Diego. I also spent 10 years assigned to the Air Operations Division. I have extensive experience as an fire company officer on both engine and truck companies, incident commander, helicopter crew chief, lead air operations instructor, in-service training instructor and fire academy instructor.I responded to many different types of incidents and emergencies. Extensive experience responding to high rise, commercial, residential, shipboard, aircraft and wildland fires. haz mat incidents, land, water & vehicle rescues, strike teams, ems and multi-casualty incidents and emergencies.As the senior helicopter crew chief, It was my responsibility to direct crews working on our fire-rescue helicopters (Bell 205,212,412) for the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department Air Operations Division. We responded to many different types of incidents. I Performed over 150 helicopter hoist rescues, as a helicopter hoist operator/instructor. Medal of Valor recipient for a hoist rescue of a person trapped in a vehicle 1700\' over the side.The San Diego Fire-Rescue Air Operations Helicopters respond to emergency incidents 24 hours a day. I was certified to utilize Anvis 9 Night Vision Goggles for missions after dark.I retired from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department in July 2012 after 35 years of service.Currently I\'m working for Capstone Fire & Safety Management as a Battalion Chief of Operations. I manage our Wildland Division throughout Southern California. Type 6 & Type 7 engines are assigned daily to work with utility companies and other contractors in high risk locations for wildland fires including VIPR and Insurance Company Deployments. Capstone also has been assigned as needed to provide customers with structure traige and the pre treatment of properties during a number of wildfires throughout California and the Western United States recently.
