About Tom Rooney

As the Captain of Tug Independence at Boston Towing & Transportation, I have been leading and managing the operations of one of the most advanced and powerful tugboats in the industry. I am a qualified assessor, designated person ashore, and designated examiner, with over 40 years of extensive knowledge and skills in marine safety, and marine industry standards and regulations.I am also the President and Founder of Maritime TOAR Assessments, a company that provides mariners with solutions for USCG TOAR assessments. I have developed and implemented maritime simulators that are used to assess mariners for completing tasks for towing officer assessment records and Z Drive tractor training. My mission is to train and provide mariners with versatile knowledge and skills for the maritime industry, and to promote excellence and professionalism in the field.
