ABOUT TOM MCARTHUR

Tom is a Chartered biodiversity professional and business leader with 20 years’ experience in consultancy and nature-based solutions. He blends his technical and corporate experience to enable projects, businesses and investments improve biodiversity and enhance nature conservation. He has particular experience in survey design and implementation, Critical Habitat Assessments (CHA) and Ecological Impact Assessment (EcIA), mitigation and management reporting. He is accomplished at developing and implementing management plans and biodiversity action plans to achieve Biodiversity Net Gain through additional conservation actions and offsets. Tom’s work is founded in IFC’s PS6 and he is experienced with ADB’s SPS and EBRD’s PR6. He knows his way around CIEEMs ECIA guidance too. Beyond compliance he is really enjoying the evolution of how nature-based solutions and natural climate solutions are becoming more innovative and influence, particularly the opportunities brought through carbon financing, which he is increasingly involved in. Tom’s experience continues to broaden as he develops corporate biodiversity strategies, frameworks, policies, and supply and value chain assessments. He is following the development of TNFD and is excited to help companies navigate its application. Tom has national and international experience and was one of the youngest consultants in the UK to be awarded professional Chartered Status (CEnv). And, as a former Executive Director and business lead of The Ecology Consultancy and Director of Earth Active he has extensive experience of effective people and team management and motivation, operational governance and organisation, and has successfully managed business growth. Tom has experience in Afghanistan, England, Georgia, Guinea, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kenya, Montenegro, Peru, Philippines, Romania, Scotland, Ukraine and Uzbekistan.
