ABOUT TOM HUTTON

I am a trusted adviser to leaders, using my more than 40 years of professional communication experience to create strategies that move organizations forward. My experience includes leadership positions at two major state universities and Colorado\'s largest health care provider, Highlights of my career include strategic communication, message development and being a trusted adviser to organizational leaders. I create strategies and execute them through a combination of hands-on efforts and staff leadership.My efforts, combined with those of many others, resulted in- More than $300 million in new construction at the University of Colorado Colorado Springs- Improved recognition for the university\'s role in community development as well as peer recognition - More than $11 million in earned media generated in 2017, 90 percent of which was positive or neutral in tone- Management of crises, including the line-of-duty death of a university police officer, fires, racial strife, athletics, controversial speakers and targeting of faculty- Assistance with capital campaigns which resulted in increased private and alumni support- Development of employee communication channels using digital tools to improve morale and reduce turnover - Effective use of digital media, including social media, to reach key audiencesI practice (and teach) the \"Three R\'s of PR,\" regret, responsibility and repair, and lead by example.I am open to part-time opportunities, including consulting, in public relations, marketing, employee communication and crisis management.
