Develop and maintain LCA models to quantify the environmental performance of Ucaneo’s Direct Air Capture technology across different development stages, from demonstration systems to future commercial-scale deployments- Define system boundaries, functional units and methodological assumptions in line with ISO 14040/44 standards, ensuring transparency, traceability and methodological rigor in lifecycle analyses- Build and manage LCI datasets by integrating engineering specifications, supplier information, operational data and background databases (e.g. ecoinvent), enabling robust environmental modeling of DAC systems- Perform sensitivity analyses and uncertainty assessments to understand the influence of key parameters such as energy supply, materials, infrastructure and process efficiencies on lifecycle carbon performance- Identify environmental hotspots and improvement opportunities across materials, utilities, energy use and infrastructure to support technology optimization and design decisions- Support MRV (Monitoring, Reporting and Verification) processes by preparing lifecycle data, documentation and consistency checks required for credible and auditable carbon removal accounting- Contribute to internal analyses and external reporting on lifecycle performance, supporting communication with partners, customers and regulatory stakeholders- Collaborate closely with engineering, operations and product teams to translate lifecycle insights into actionable improvements for DAC system design and deployment.

ABOUT TOM HOSTEKIND

Graduated Energy and Environmental Engineer from INSA Lyon and currently based in Berlin, I am working as a Junior LCA Engineer at Ucaneo, a climate-tech startup developing Direct Air Capture (DAC) technology for carbon removal.I’m particularly interested in how environmental impacts can be quantified and translated into actionable insights to support decision-making in the context of the energy transition and industrial decarbonization. In my current role, I develop Life Cycle Assessment models for Direct Air Capture systems, analyzing how materials, energy systems, infrastructure, and operational choices influence overall environmental performance. This work contributes to ensuring that emerging carbon removal technologies are supported by transparent and science-based assessments.I enjoy working with environmental data - from collection and structuring to modeling and interpretation - especially when it helps guide technology development and sustainability strategies. My multidisciplinary background in physics, thermodynamics, IT, ecology, climate and energy systems, combined with perspectives from economics, policy and sustainability governance, allows me to bridge the gap between engineering, business strategy, and public policy.I am particularly interested in Life Cycle Assessment, circular economy, renewable energy systems, and carbon removal technologies, and in supporting organisations in building credible and data-driven climate strategies.I strongly believe that production systems are complex and interconnected, and that technical expertise alone is not sufficient. As an extroverted person, I value observation, discussion, and collaboration, and I am convinced that the environmental transition is a collective effort.I’d be happy to connect with professionals working in LCA, climate tech, sustainability strategy, or environmental policy, to exchange ideas and perspectives on how lifecycle thinking can support the transition to a net-zero economy.
