ABOUT TOM GRIEVE
I am a World Championship medal swimming coach with a MSc in Strength and Conditioning from Loughborough University and a First Class BSc (Hons) degree in Sports Coaching and P.E. Driven by a passion to help athletes achieve their dreams in performance sport. Whilst pursuing my postgraduate degree I served as a Coach at Loughborough Swimming. In the 23/24 season I primarily supported the Head Coach and his High Performance Sprint Squad. My role involved the delivery, support and planning of coaching training sessions under the mentorship of the Head Coach whilst actively contributing to performance planning meetings with the aim of optimising athletes’ performance at major competitions such as the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, World and European Championships. Following this, from the start of the 24/25 season I was trusted with the planning and coaching of the High Performance Squad sprinters as they returned to training off the back of the 2024 Olympics aiming for the 2024 Short Course World Championships at which one of my athletes achieved a bronze medal. From January 2025, in my sprint squad I coached athletes to the 2025 World Championships, World University Games, and domestic championship medals and Commonwealth Games team pre-selection. I also assisted in coaching athletes in Strength and Conditioning alongside the lead S&C coach and was trusted to lead the S&C program during the pre Olympic training camp in 2024. This experience enhanced my ability to manage groups of elite senior athletes and reach performance based targets. I enjoy furthering my learning through academics and learning through others. Upon finishing my undergraduate degree, I presented my research project of ‘How Parent-coaches can Hinder or Nurture Youth Athlete Development’ at the British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences Conference 2023. I believe in the mantra Ubuntu, meaning I am because we are, a value in which I aim to uphold in my everyday lifestyle and especially when working with athletes to build a positive performance culture.
